Nathaniel Hall interview with Anthony Crank

As part of the Diverge programme, we will be running a series of insightful interviews celebrating artists and creatives who’ve been commissioned and/or supported by Waterside Arts and Creative Industries Trafford. Nathaniel Hall is Co-Artistic Director of Dibby Theatre and was commissioned by Waterside and Creative Industries Trafford in 2018 to develop and create a new piece of work as part of the theatre commissions programme. Queer artist and activist, Nathaniel Hall presents a funny and frank one-man show about attempting to stay positive in a negative world, First Time premiered at Waterside in November 2018. First Time has had a remarkable response, playing to sell-out audiences in Edinburgh and across the UK, receiving 5* reviews (including The Stage) and winner of the inaugural Venues North Edinburgh Fringe Award. Nathaniel will be appearing in Russell T Davies’ ‘It’s a Sin’ airing on Channel 4 and Anthony Crank spent some time chatting with Nathaniel about the success of his show, his work in HIV activism and the relationship with Waterside Arts.

Touching Moments Ep5: Face.

An opportunity to join artist Victoria Firth in a series of tongue-in-cheek self help videos about touching and being touched. Having spent lockdown listening to podcasts and trying to do ’30 days of yoga’ this piece is her own online offer for contact seekers, the touch starved and the skin hungry. A literal and metaphorical response to our need for connection and intimacy during these times of social separation and vulnerability. A Diverge project supported by Waterside Arts, Originally developed for ‘Domestic’ by Word of Warning About the artist My name is Victoria and I’m a performer, theatre maker and director from Yorkshire. I think theatre should be joyful and full of heart. I am interested in exploring empathy, embodiment and connection – mainly getting under the skin of things that lots of us feel but no-one talks about. I make performance in lots of kinds of forms –theatre, comedy and live art. Almost always my shows are physical, playful and a bit perilous. Sometimes my performances have words. Sometimes not. Sometimes movement and images do what words might. Theatre is a place I feel at home and I’d love to share it with you.
